Cheating by eBay

Hello , I purchased a NEW GIGASET A490 CORDLESS LANDLINE PHONE on ebay dated 9/12/14, When I received this product it was not working . When I called to eBay they gave me seller no Shadab A Sayed -09892326246 and told to contact him . I tried 20 times to contact him but he did not pick my phone . I send him email this time he responded and send me a email ,advised me to contact to service center .Provided me the service center no 011-30962309 already in booklet provided with product , when I called on this no -this no does not exist .In the mean while it was more than 7 days and eBay people generated a claim for me Claim ID 799305 on 17-12 14 , they informed me that they are talking to the seller and in next 4 to 5 days they will inform me . On 23-12-14 I received a call that only option for me is to contact seller or their service center , eBay is not a seller it is only mediator and they ( ebay ) sent me a email that your claim has been rejected .
I am feeling cheated by Ebay

How? Landline no provided by seller dose not exist .Moreover what is the role of eBay ? can they runaway from their so called big claim
