Velmurugan Senathipathi

Dr.S. Velmurugan is presently working as a Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR - Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi and also the Former Head of the Traffic Engineering and Safety (TES) Division of CSIR-CRRI. He has completed his Ph.D. in Transportation Systems Engineering at IIT, Bombay in March, 1995.
He was instrumental in the formulation / revision of 15 IRC publications during the last 12 years. He has served in the capacity of Project Leader / Coordinator in the World Bank sponsored projects as well as National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and various state Public Works Departments (PWD) for the conduct of various stages of Road Safety Audits (RSA) covering more than 9000 Kms. He is acting as the Joint Course Coordinator for the most sought after course by the Highway and Transportation fraternity being run by CSIR - CRRI since May, 2017 namely 15-day Certification Course on "Road Safety Audit and Other Road Safety related Aspects" as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) as well as National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) requirements.
In 2018, he has completed a CSIR Sponsored project titled, “Indian Highway Capacity Manual (Indo-HCM)” sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) by assuming the role of Champion.
He was bestowed with Bihar PWD Medals in 2005 and 2011 by IRC and also he was the recipient of the prestigious IRC - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary award in 2009 for his outstanding research contribution to the highway profession in the country. Further, he is the recipient of Outstanding Scientist Medal in March, 2015 by Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC).
He has published more than 150 technical papers in International and National journals and refereed Conferences measuring an overall Impact Factor (IF) of 12.06 and Google Scholar Citation of 333; (h-index of 9).
He has visited countries like Belgium, Australia, USA, Germany, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
